About Janine

Counselling with Janine Thompson

For over a decade, I’ve worked in both public and private sectors of counselling and psychotherapy. This diverse experience allows me to offer a safe, confidential, and inclusive space where individuals from all walks of life can explore their thoughts, emotions, and challenges with compassion and care.

I support people through life’s most difficult moments—offering guidance, encouragement, and practical tools to help them live more fulfilling, authentic lives. Above all, I believe there is no shame in seeking help and no better time than the present to begin the journey toward healing and joy.

I work with individuals and families of all abilities, genders, and sexual orientations who are navigating the impact of significant life events. Whether you’re grieving a loss, feeling disconnected from joy, or healing from trauma, I’ll walk beside you every step of the way.

My academic background and extensive experience in mental health and substance use have given me deep insight into the complex factors that affect emotional well-being. I have particular expertise in issues related to unresolved grief, loss, depression, trauma, and post-traumatic stress.

In addition, I support clients facing anxiety, life transitions, low self-esteem, the aftermath of abuse, parenting difficulties, and relationship or family conflict.

Counselling is available in-person and online. Please don’t hesitate to reach out via phone or email—let’s start the conversation.

My Education and Training

I hold a Master of Social Work with a specialization in Clinical Counselling from the University of Calgary. Prior to this, I completed a Bachelor of Social Work and a Social Work diploma with honours. Each of these programs included extensive, supervised practicum placements that allowed me to develop and refine my skills under the mentorship of seasoned professionals.

I am a Registered Social Worker in good standing with the British Columbia College of Social Workers (BCCSW) and a member of the BC Association of Social Workers (BCASW).

As outlined by the BCCSW:

“Social Workers focus on enhancing the well-being of individuals, families, and communities. They believe in the inherent dignity and worth of all people, and work to promote social justice, equity, and access to resources. Social Workers assist individuals facing life challenges such as mental and physical illness, grief and loss, poverty, discrimination, abuse, addiction, divorce, unemployment, disability, and educational barriers. They offer counselling, support services, advocacy, and tools to help clients manage life’s difficulties.”
